In an age where books are often praised for their simplicity and many stories in the genre are watered down for quick consumption, Immortal Rose is a refreshing read. The prose is intricate and immersive, with vivid descriptions that pull you into the story, which I found to be a perfect fit for a world built around a scent-based magic system. The world-building is comprehensive, leaving no detail unexplored as readers discover the mechanisms behind these magical perfumes, from how they're created to how they're wielded.

Viola was a compelling protagonist whose decisions always felt logical and purposeful. I appreciated how we were able to see the motivation and thought process of every action she took. Hugh, the male lead, wasn't quite as strong for me. At times, he drifted a little too close to the familiar "morally gray" romantasy archetype, though it never became a major issue that greatly affected the reading experience.

Overall this was a very enjoyable read, I couldn't just breeze through it in a single sitting the story demanded time and attention which has become rare. The uniqueness of the magic system really resonated with me and even though the pacing was a bit slow for the majority of the story, the quality of writing remained the same. I would recommend this book to anyone who's grown tired of monotony in the genre or just wants a fun read filled with descriptive prose. Either way I can't wait to see what the next book has in store.
